Belgique!

host family

Well I have a lot to talk about.

This is a picture of my host family and I. They are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met! As soon as I found all my baggage at the airport (thought I’d never find it all) I walked out the exit to hear my family yelling my name in excitement. This made me so happy and extremely welcome. That day I got to meet the family a little bit better. They were trying to speak english to help me. Much appreciated after a long day. I got one hour sleep on the 7 hour plane ride.  Once we all got home they invited me to unpack and sleep. I slept for way longer than I wanted. Like 3 hours or so. Dinner was amazing, simple but delicious. Rice, pork with special sauce (I have no idea what the sauce was…. I was just overly excited to eat) and spinach al fried up. Spinach… Not my favourite but I shovelled it down with my rice 😉

I had an okay sleep that night…

I wanted to blog but my laptop had died. Well just charge it Nathan? Ummm no, because the stupid converter I bought did not work with my laptop charger. My laptop charger has a built in converter for the volts but it still have a north american outlet that for some reason my converter did not like.. So I tried to explain to Gaspard (Host father) that this was the problem. He agreed and said we will find a fix for you. Then about 10 minutes later, Gaspard plugged the PS3 power adapter into the converter box on my power cord. It works, what luck. Im just gonna make sure to unplug  my laptop once its fully charged :p

The next day (today) Gaspard, Fred (Host brother, age 13), and I went to the store to buy myself a new phone for here. Oh wait I forgot to mention that I was waken by my neighbours rooster.. Or so i think it was.. It wouldnt shut up.. Anyways let me just say now how bad we are getting ripped off in Canada!! For 100 Euros I got a Sony Xperia E4. 8 gb internal memory, 8 megapixel camera, expandable SD card, 1080p screen and more! AND! On top of that i have no contract and i pay 15 Euros a month for unlimited texting, 120 minutes of calling and 1 Gigabyte of Data, and for an extra 5 euros i can get 2 gigabytes of data! The phone I had in Canada was a little bit faster and took better pictures…. But not for 600$ more!!

After buying my phone we went to pick up my host sister (Charline) from her university. I got to talk with her more and she made me try explaining my whole day in french. Even though she speaks the best english out of everyone. My french has alot of english word but with french accents :p sometimes it works aha. I am still learning.

I haven’t been here long and I can already feel struggle in my english. I’m trying to think french all the time. Even writing this in my head its coming out some french and some english. For example this is what I think.

Je pense je parle en francais good but sometimes je parle en anglais.

A good frenglais example of how I speak to my host parents right now.

Well it’s almost 1:00am here and I wanted to catch up a little bit on how my time has been. Tomorrow I will be going with Axel (Host Brother) to Nevres I think the town is called with his friends on the city bus 🙂 Gonna be an adventure!

I’ll be able to keep in touch better now!

Au revoir! 😉
